News from 35000 ft

Well, I'm on my way!

The last week has been SOOO crazy! I found it hard not to make hanging out with friends my highest priority before leaving..  While this was awesome, it meant a little more stress from being disorganised to the last minute and ended up getting very little sleep in the few days leading to my departure, fretting over whether i'd thought of everything.

My flight to Vancouver departed from Sydney at midday, this meant arising at 4.30am to prepare for a 7.45am domestic.  Everything went pretty smooth sailing. There was a minor hiccup in that the Melb-Syd flight was delayed, which of course brought on some anxiety about having enough time to check-in to the next flight on time but everything worked out, of course.

I'm fortunate enough to have an uncle who is very well connected in the airline industry.  He knew someone who works at the service desk for AirCanada who amazingly hooked me up with 3 seats to myself! *high five* Sooooo awesome! Though there are some people around me who aren't great fans of the situation. Totally gonna have a proper lie-down later on too, i'll try be subtle but i aint giving up these seats :P.  I'm actually writing this from the plane on my little netbook, turns out they have AC power on board now and i just happened to throw in my power supply.. so it's my movies, tv shows, music mixing, resume writing etc, all in luxurious comfort for 14hrs! Woohoo!

My sister Alana will be meeting me at Vancouver when I arrive, and i have 9 days in a hostel booked, but will be house hunting virtually immediately so hopefully i wont need it all!

This is getting long, before i sign off i want to acknowledge all my friends who gave me their best wishes for this trip. I have had many heartfelt messages, going away gifts etc come my way and feel extremely overwhelmed and grateful for the love I clearly have around me.  Leaving such a supportive circle of friends is tough, but then again, you've given me the strength to do it. So a big thankyou and hugs to all those people :)

Bye for now :)

UPDATE 1:  it's 7:25pm melbourne time (halfway), flight's going quite well.. not surprising given the above details.  So far I've half completed my resume, watched the 2 latest episodes of The Office, had a nap, and watched Sicko, the Michael Moore doco. I've also taken some valium (cheers pete) and had 2 glasses of red. Who ever said flying sucked?!

UPDATE 2: Well we're coming into land now.  Got a bit of sleep but not as much as i'd hoped.  Started making a bit of a music mix, continued resume and watched 'This Is Spinal Tap' (first time! awesome!) Now just to get through customs which will be a bitch with all my snowboard gear.. but then i get to see Lani!!! Yay!
